With COVID-19 still looming and flu season quickly approaching, it’s more important than ever that we continue to boost our immunity. In an interview with WBIR Channel 10, Lee Murphy, registered dietician from the Department of Nutrition, shared three ways to enhance our immunity through our nutrition.
First, Murphy recommends incorporating Vitamin C in our diets to boost our natural immunity and shorten the duration and intensity of seasonal colds. Adding fruits and vegetables to our meals is an easy way to get our daily Vitamin C intake. Next, she recommends that we add Omega-3 to our diet regimen, either through the food we eat or by taking supplements, to enhance our immunity on a cellular level. Omega-3 can be found in fish, as well as walnuts and flax seeds. Lastly, probiotics need to be part of our daily nutritional routines to keep our digestive systems healthy. Yogurt is the easiest way to get a daily dose of probiotic, but supplements are also available.
Most importantly, Murphy says that we all keep a balanced diet with exercise, in addition to incorporating these super foods into our diet.
