Lynn Hodge Named Department Head for Theory & Practice in Teacher Education

At the beginning of the Fall 2021 semester, Lynn Hodge was appointed as the new department head for the Department of Theory and Practice in Education. Hodge began hew new role on August 1, replacing Sherry Bell, who recently accepted the position of Director of Literacy InitiativesSherry Bell Appointed Director of Literacy Initiatives for the college.

Lynn HodgeHodge is a professor of Mathematics Education in the department where she serves as the Director of the Center for Enhancing Education in Mathematics and Sciences (CEEMS), and the Director of STEM education programs. As a STEM educator, Hodge is a frequent recipient of external funding focusing on STEM topics and teaching, She has provided guidance for STEM teachers and students locally, and at state and national levels.

Hodge is also Co-Director of VolsTeach, a program which targets undergraduate math, science, or engineering majors interested in expanding their professional skills and exploring a career in secondary teaching.

The college would like to thank Sherry for leading the department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education over the last decade. “Even given the size of the department, Sherry has always been on top of every initiative or request from me, and I am so grateful.  I look forward to working with Sherry in her new role as Director of Literacy Initiatives for the college.  These are exciting times!” said Ellen McIntyre, Dean.
